ABOUT THE STUDIO

The English word education appears to stem from several Latin words. Commonly, the mere mention of education seems to imply the idea that something (knowledge) is being put into the student, often times intentionally or not, for the sake of doing so.

Without probing too deeply into etymological waters for the purpose of this introduction, many of the Latin words impart the concept of either putting some type of knowledge into a person, much like some kind of physical substance is placed into a container of sorts, or the idea that the word indicates "bringing up", "rearing" or "molding" an individual as seen fit by the educator. However, two variants appear to suggest a different angle. E duco, suggests the idea that the student has inborn potential, and this potential must be cultivated. The other, educere, is to bring forth from within.

It is with these latter two Latin stems which form the very mission statement of DGB Guitar Studio, an institution created with the purpose of emphasizing the concept that understanding, which knowledge serves to ultimately yield, already exists within the student. Therefore, the act of educating, in this studio, is the act of bringing forth -illuminating from within- that understanding which already lies within the individual.
